The Responsibility of Voting & Making Informed Choices

Voting is more than just casting a ballot—it’s a vital way to shape communities, influence policies, and ensure your voice is heard. This course introduces young adults to the importance of civic responsibility, walking them through the value of participating in elections and the impact their choices can have on local and national levels.

Participants will learn how to:

• Understand their role as voters, including the rights and responsibilities that come with citizenship.

• Recognize trustworthy information sources, separating fact from opinion or misinformation, especially in social media and online platforms.

• Research candidates and measures, focusing on issues that align with personal values and community needs.

• Identify warning signs of misinformation, including biased reporting, “fake news,” and misleading political advertising.

• Navigate the voting process confidently, from registration and knowing where to vote, to understanding ballots and deadlines.

By the end of this course, students will feel empowered to vote with confidence, equipped with the critical thinking skills to make informed decisions and avoid common pitfalls. More importantly, they will understand that voting is not just a right, but a responsibility that helps build stronger communities and a brighter future.
