Turning 18 is a milestone that marks the transition from adolescence to legal adulthood—and with it comes a new set of rights, responsibilities, and opportunities. This course gives young adults a clear, practical overview of what changes when they reach 18, and how to prepare for the expectations that come with independence.
Participants will explore:
Legal Responsibilities – Understanding contracts, leases, and the importance of reading and honoring agreements.
Financial Basics – Opening bank accounts, managing credit and debit cards, understanding credit scores, and budgeting for everyday expenses.
Civic Duties – Registering to vote, jury duty, and understanding their role as active community members.
Healthcare & Insurance – Making medical decisions, accessing health care, and knowing the basics of health, auto, and renters’ insurance.
Identification & Records – Obtaining state IDs, driver’s licenses, passports, and keeping personal records secure.
Independence & Self-Management – Time management, balancing work or school, and maintaining personal accountability.
By the end of the course, young adults will feel equipped with the knowledge and confidence to step into adulthood with clarity. They’ll leave with practical tools to manage responsibilities, make informed choices, and start building a solid foundation for their future.
