Digital Consent
Digital Consent: Understanding Your Online Boundaries
In today’s connected world, every click, share, and setting adjustment has meaning. This course teaches young adults about digital consent—the responsibility of giving, requesting, and respecting permission in online spaces. From social media interactions to app permissions and data privacy, participants will explore how consent shapes safety, trust, and independence in the digital age.
Participants will learn how to:
Understand what digital consent means – Knowing when and how to give permission for data use, media sharing, or online interactions.
Protect personal information – Recognizing the difference between safe sharing and oversharing, especially with strangers or public platforms.
Navigate social media responsibly – Asking before tagging or posting about others, and respecting digital boundaries in friendships and relationships.
Read and interpret digital agreements – Learning what “Terms of Service” and “Privacy Policies” actually mean and how they impact your data.
Manage app permissions – Understanding requests for location, camera, microphone, or contact access, and deciding when to allow or deny them.
Recognize risks of ignoring consent – Exploring the personal, legal, and social consequences of sharing without permission or granting unnecessary access.
Build healthy digital habits – Setting personal boundaries online, using privacy settings wisely, and respecting others’ choices about their data and images.
By the end of this course, participants will see that digital consent is more than just clicking “I agree”—it’s about protecting your privacy, respecting others’ boundaries, and making informed choices about the information you share and the access you grant.
